Book to Movie Adaptations

20211119_BookstoMovies_blo_20211119-131650_1

Whether you’re ready to visit the theatre or love watching from your couch, there are television and movie adaptations of some of our favorite titles to look forward to this fall and into 2022. Despite some productions being delayed, it’s never too early to start keeping tabs and looking for news to build up the anticipation. Take a look at just some of the options below, and make sure to check out their book counterparts at any Henrico library location!

There’s Someone Inside Your House based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Perkins - Despite the name, this novel packs a big romantic punch and just happens to have a serial killing spree around Halloween sprinkled in. Many reviews say the novel doesn’t deliver as a horror, so make your own call by comparing the movie and reading the book here. Available to watch on Netflix now.

One of Us is Lying based on the book of the same name by Karen McManus - The queen of YA suspense’s first novel made a big splash, giving us a story of five prep school teens who enter detention but only four who leave. Whose secret made them desperate enough to kill? Find the book here. Available to stream on Peacock.

Dune based on the book of the same name by Frank Herbert - The award-winning tale of a planet with a highly sought-after resource and the lengths people will go to obtain it has been fraught with other attempts to be adapted into a movie. See for yourself if this one will do the book justice (and read it here). Available to watch on HBO Max.

Wheel of Time based on the series of the same name by Robert Jordan - Craving a fantasy series? The series has George R. R. Martin-level world building that completely immerses the reader in a battle of light vs. darkness. Then throw in some dragons, prophecies, and an epic journey for good to prevail once and for all. Ready to read? Check out the titles here. Available to stream on Amazon Prime video on November 19.

The Player’s Table based on They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman - Get sucked into an Australian prep-school whodunit focused around a secret society, starring Halsey and Sydney Sweeney. What more can a nice teen thriller ask for? While there’s no timeline yet, keep your eyes peeled for info as this one develops and read the book in the meantime here.

The Vampire Academy TV series based on the books by Richelle Mead - Though there is no release date listed, IMDB suggests this new interpretation of the world of moroi, dhampirs, and strigoi will premiere sometime next year. If you’re a little worried after the not-so noteworthy movie version, keep in mind the producer also worked on TV series like Vampire Diaries and Legacies! While you wait for more than just the cast list, find the series in our catalog here. Currently in development for Peacock.
