Book Discussions

Two rows of illustrated figures holding books open and reading. The figures represent people from a variety of identities.

Book discussions are a great way to connect with old friends, or to make new ones! Join one of our discussions virtually from the comfort of your home, or pick up a Book Club in a Bag to read with friends!

We read and discuss a wide variety of titles for our discussions. Find a group to join each month, or read whatever takes your fancy and jump in to talk about it. Here are just a few of the discussions happening in February:

In this collection of short stories, McBride explores the ways we learn from the world and the people around us. An antiques dealer discovers that a legendary toy commissioned by Civil War General Robert E. Lee now sits in the home of a black minister in Queens. Five strangers find themselves thrown together and face unexpected judgment. An American president draws inspiration from a conversation he overhears in a stable. And members of The Five-Carat Soul Bottom Bone Band recount stories from their own messy and hilarious lives. Join us for a discussion of Five Carat Soul by James McBride.

And we have many more! Find the full schedule on our Book Discussions page and check our events calendar for more great virtual programs for all ages.

If you have your own book club and are trying to figure out what to discuss next, check out Book Club in a Bag! Every set includes eight copies of the requested title—and you can have it out for 6 weeks! The titles are ones we love, and they all are lots of fun to discuss. Find out more.
