Family Fun for the Spooky Season!

11---Family-Fun-for-the-Spooky-Season

The temperature has dropped, leaves are changing color, and Halloween is right around the corner! We are celebrating with magic shows, special storytimes, spooky science, and fun events for the whole family.

We love Halloween at HCPL. Each year we have so much fun dressing up, recommending spooky books and scary books, and planning exciting events. Here are just a few of the great programs happening this October:

Costume Swap
Fairfield Library – October 19, 2:00 pm*
Varina Library – October 21, 5:00 pm
Don't shop, swap! Bring outgrown children's costumes to swap for new-to-you costumes. To participate bring a gently used costume on the day of the event. Costume donations will be accepted starting October 1 at Varina Library and October 7 at Fairfield Library. Best for Preschool and Elementary ages.

Pumpkins S.T.E.M.
Tuckahoe Library
October 14, 3:30 pm
Come explore everything pumpkin! We will be tasting pumpkins, feeling pumpkin gut slime, counting seeds and much more! Best for Preschool and Elementary ages.

Spooky Magic Show
Glen Allen Library
October 14, 4:00 pm
Celebrate Halloween with a spook-tacular magic show by The Amazing Mr. B! Holiday treats provided by the Friends of the Library. Best for grades K-5.

Mutant Toyborgs
Libbie Mill Library
October 19, 2:30 pm
Make your own monstrous masterpiece at this upcycled toy program. We will be turning old, broken, and forgotten toys into creepy new creations. Supplies will be provided, but if you have any old toys lying around and would like to give them a new (terrifying) life, please bring them! The more monsters, the merrier. Best for grades 6-12.

S.T.E.M.: How to Catch a Monster
Gayton Library
October 24, 6:30 pm
There's a monster loose in the library! Help us create a trap to catch the monster and save library-kind. Best for grades K-5.

Monsters Around the World
Sandston Library
October 25-26, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Join us for our annual museum-style exhibit of pictures and evidence of monsters and unexplained creatures from around the world. You can learn about each monster and its place of origin, and decide for yourself if these international stories are fact or fiction. All ages are welcome, but recommended for school age children to adult.

Halloween Fun
Twin Hickory Library
October 26, 10:00 am
Come watch a movie about the Great Pumpkin and decorate your own Trick or Treat Bag. Big kids can "Make Your Own Head." Best for Preschool and Elementary ages.

Adult Story Time: Halloween Tales
Fairfield Library*
October 28, 7:00 pm
Let's share tales, classic and contemporary, that celebrate the scariest time of the year. If you have a favorite story to share, we encourage you to bring it with you.

All Ages Nightmare
North Park Library
October 31, 6:00 pm
Join us in Halloween Town for activities, treats and fun for all ages!

*These programs will be held at the new Fairfield Area Library! If you haven’t had a chance to visit the new library yet, these events are a perfect reason to go see it for yourself. Please note the new library is located at 1401 N. Laburnum Avenue.
