On Your Mark, Get Set, Go! Sports Manga for Teens

What do the 2024 Summer Olympics have in common with our manga collection? More than you think! You’ll find badminton, basketball, cycling, gymnastics, running, soccer, and volleyball on the screen and on our shelves. If you’re a manga fan (or looking to try something new) and are feeling inspired by the summer games, read on for some of the sports-themed manga available at the library. 

  • Again!! by Mitsuro Kubo (also available on Hoopla)
    • After a terrible accident, friendless high school senior Kinichiro wakes up with a chance to do high school all over again. Eager for a different experience, Kinichiro joins his school’s cheer squad. Follow the squad’s adventures as they cheer on their classmates and overcome different challenges.
  • Blue Box by Kouji Miura
    • Can a badminton player and a basketball player make their relationship work? Taiki and Chinatsu give it their all in this series about high school romance and competitive sports.
  • Blue Lock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro
    • In search of a striker who can help them win the next World Cup, Japan’s soccer team creates a training camp for three hundred of Japan’s best youth players. Who will be the last player standing?
  • Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate
    • Rivals become teammates in this series about high school volleyball, learning to work together, and competing for the league’s top spot.   
  • Kuroko’s Basketball by Tadatoshi Fujimaki
    • Often ignored by his classmates, Kuroko’s “invisibility” gives him an edge on the basketball court: no one sees him coming! When U.S. transfer student Taiga Kagami joins the team, the two set their sights on beating a legendary middle school team.
  • Run On Your New Legs by Wataru Midori
    • Kikuzato’s dreams of becoming a star athlete are dashed by a terrible accident. But when a doctor sees him sprint through a train station on his prosthetic leg, Kikuzato’s dreams are reignited. The doctor promises to build him a brand new leg as long as he continues to run.
