Blast from the Past Book Club with Henrico Recreation & Parks
The Henrico Department of Recreation and Parks manages historic resources in Henrico, including archives, roadside markers and building plaques, and a group of historic sites and museums. This August, we invite you to explore literature and local history with us as we launch our Blast from the Past Book Club with Henrico Recreation and Parks. In this group, you can discuss engaging historical fiction and nonfiction at fascinating historic sites with expert staff. Read on to learn more about the program and upcoming discussions.
- Tuesday, August 8, 1-3PM at Meadow Farm – Yellow Wife: A Novel by Sadeqa Johnson
- Join Meadow Farm staff and Henrico County Public Library for our bi-monthly book club! We will read a new book and visit a different Henrico County historic site every other month. After the book discussion, we will talk about the ties between the site and the book. Our first book is Yellow Wife: A Novel by Sadeqa Johnson with the discussion inside the Parsons Community Center and a tour of the Meadow Farm historic house after the discussion.
All book discussions will take place from 1-2PM and will be followed by a site tour from 2-3PM. Upcoming sessions include:
- Tuesday, October 10 at Springfield School - Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? And Other Conversations About Race by Beverly Tatum
- Tuesday, December 12 at Armour House & Gardens - Dead Wake by Eric Larson
- Tuesday, February 13 at RF&P Park train car - Steel Drivin’ Man by Scott Reynolds Nelson
- Tuesday, April 9 at Dabbs House Museum - Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy by Karen Abbott
