Online Resources for Teens

Online-Resources-for-Teens

Our Teen Services Librarians put together a list of some of the library’s online resources that are particularly helpful for teens. You can get free online tutoring and help with assignments and test prep, learn about health and wellness, keep up with your reading goals, and even earn community service credit from the library – all online!

If you don’t have a library card yet, you can sign up for a digital card, available to new library users during our closure. Your digital card will allow you access to OverDrive and our online learning and research databases.

Tutor.com connects you with free, real-time tutoring for over 60 subjects and tests. If you learn best independently, check out their self-study tools for the SAT, ACT, and AP tests. Tutor.com also offers a drop-off service that allows you to send in an essay, resume, or cover letter and get feedback. Bilingual Spanish-speaking tutors are available.

Teen Health & Wellness Database is your go-to source for all things health and wellness. Find easy-to-read information about body image, disabilities, grief, emotions, fitness, sexuality, and more.

Don’t fall behind on your reading goals just because you can’t check out physical books. OverDrive, RBDigital, and Hoopla are stocked with books, magazines, and music for you to enjoy from home on a computer, phone, or other mobile device.

With such a large selection of titles available online, you might need help deciding what to read. My Next Read is a service that allows you to receive customized reading recommendations from HCPL teen librarians. Tell us about your reading preferences and we will respond with a selection of hand-picked titles just for you!

Earn community service credit from home through Read + Review. After reading a young adult book published within the last two years, use our online submission form to write and submit a review. Earn up to two community service credit hours for each eligible submission. Exceptional reviews will be posted on our HCPL TeenScene Read + Review blog, so check it out for examples.

Let Universal Class or Learning Express Library be your school-away-from-school. Learn anything from dog grooming to essay writing to web design, all from the comfort of your couch. Many of these classes are monitored by real teachers who will give you feedback on your assignments within 24 hours.

Lastly, stay connected! Follow HCPL TeenScene on Facebook and Instagram and check back with us occasionally for new developments. We are working on making more teen library services and programs available online, and we have some exciting ideas up our sleeves.
