See What’s New This Spring at HCPL

This Spring, there’s a lot to discover at the library.  We’ve got a full slate of programs suited to every interest, new features added to popular resources, a new catalog look and feel, and of course, new additions to our collection.

Did You Know: Language Learning Resources

The world is opening up again, and many of us are thinking about taking our next big trip. Where to?  Spain? Korea? Vietnam? Wherever you go, studying a language can make your fabulous trip even more fabulous.

No travel plans, you say? Language study can still widen and enrich your world. According to Rosetta Stone, learning a new language can help you preserve and improve your brain function, memory, and problem solving skills. You might even be able to connect with individuals in your community who speak the language. Plus, learning a language can be just plain FUN.

Ready to explore a new language? Read on to learn about how the Library can help!

New Year, New You!

January is often a time of reflection. Many of us will set new goals to strive toward in the year ahead. Whether you hope to learn a new skill, kick start your career, improve your mental and physical health, and/or take control of your finances, the library is here to assist you!

March is National Craft Month

March is National Craft Month! Tap into your creative side by exploring craft programs, recommended titles from our collection, and online course opportunities available through Universal Class, one of our Research and Learning databases. Additionally, stay tuned to our Instagram and Facebook pages throughout the month for craft examples created by staff for programs, library displays, and personal projects!

Healthy Cooking

Summer is coming and with it comes oodles of fresh produce--ripe tomatoes, purple-y eggplant, juicy peaches, and fresh plums. Light and healthy cooking is a great way to use all that produce and celebrate long days and warmer weather.  Once upon a time, eating healthy might have meant tubs of cottage cheese and boring chewy chicken breasts.  But it doesn’t have to! The collections below are full of (mostly vegetarian) delicious dishes that will tantalize your taste buds and fill you up without weighing you down.

Active Aging Week

In 2003, the International Council on Active Aging initiated the first Active Aging Week. Typically held in early October, the week-long campaign encourages the concept of positive aging. In observation of Active Aging Week, the Library will be hosting a number of events this fall. Read on to learn more about upcoming programs as well as additional local and Library resources that promote the benefits of active living and aging.
