The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe
[Insert book cover image here]The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe follows Nora, Wes, Iris, Turbo the dog, and Amanda as they go on a hike in the forest as a birthday gift to Nora. Then, Amanda goes missing, presumably kidnapped by Raymond. They must survive the forest, save Amanda, and get back home but, during the journey they realize a few things. Someone is lying, and the hike is not what it seems on the outside.
During the hiking trip, the main characters have to find Amanda and not get caught by Raymond and the FBI. The forest is filled with rivers, a mine shaft, an embankment, and a dormant volcano. One thing that was confusing was the way the plot was structured. It went back in time a lot during the beginning but it was done well enough that it added context to the situations when needed; it added suspense or mystery to the story. Nora, the main character, has a history with Raymond and was known as con artist with her mom; she and Raymond are enemies. Iris is Nora's girlfriend; Nora tells her everything. Wes is Nora's ex-boyfriend; he is good friends with both Iris and Nora. He also loves his dog. Amanda is Wes's girlfriend and although she doesn't seem important she plays a big role in the story.
I loved the characterization of all the characters. They all had different motives and contributed to the plot in ways that made sense to them personally. They all also had unique trauma.
