Henrico County Public Library offers Digital Media Labs within selected branches, the goal of which is to encourage creation and innovation amongst individuals and groups. These collaborative makerspaces are filled with various digital media (e.g., high-end computers, 3D printers, video cameras, podcast equipment, scanners, etc.) that customers may use to support their educational, professional, and personal goals.
The Digital Media Labs are subject to the same policy and procedures as all computer lab use as recorded in section 5.11 of HCPL Policies and Procedures Manual with the following additional conditions:
Reservation requests must be made by HCPL cardholders age 14 and older; cardholders age 13 and under must have a parent or guardian present with them while in the lab.
The DML at Twin Hickory Area Library can accommodate one group (maximum of 8 people) at a time.
Equipment groupings will be options when submitting a request to use a Digital Media Lab. The equipment group chosen is what will be available to the customer when they check in. When they are finished and check out, the equipment will be inspected.
Length of reservation: 2 hours with the option to have 2 more hours if the Lab is not reserved by another customer (like study rooms).
How far in advance: 3 months (like meeting rooms).
Checking In/Out: at the nearest Information Desk. The person who made the reservation must be the one checking in and out. They must present their library card or otherwise verify their identity.
Charging for materials used: a bill will be added to the customer's Sirsi account for any expenses incurred.
