Complete the 2020 Census

Census Information Sessions

Every ten years, the U.S. Census aims to count each and every person living in the nation, including right here in Henrico County. The collected data helps to determine things like the number of seats Virginia has in the House of Representatives, and how to distribute $675 billion in federal funds to communities like ours. The Library is providing information about the census and assistance filling out the online form starting this month.

Every person counted equates to approximately $2,000/per year in federal funds. Every 500 people represents $1 million/year in funding for Henrico’s schools, hospitals, roads, and other vital programs.

Library staff are equipped with accurate information about the census and are happy to answer as many questions as we can.

How, When, and Where

2020 is the first time people are being asked to complete the census online. The process will take about 10 minutes and can be done anywhere with an internet connection, including the public library. Here are some important dates for the census process:

May 13, 2020: Nonresponse follow-up begins - through mail and in person, people will be directed to complete the Internet Self-response

Census & Privacy

The census is private and safe for you to fill out, no matter your immigration status. It is prohibited by law for the census to share data with ICE or the IRS. The data is used to help the government know how many people live in our communities and use our roads, bridges, schools, and other things, so we can plan for the future.
