The VolunTeen program is a great way to earn community service hours and gain valuable experience that can be useful in finding a job. VolunTeens can help with library programs, collection maintenance, office work, and shelving and sorting materials in the circulation department. VolunTeens must be 14-18 years old and are expected to be able to work independently, rather than in a group setting, and are expected to follow a weekly work schedule.
VolunTeen application processes and duties vary from library to library. Some libraries need VolunTeens only during the summer, while other libraries need help year-round. Check with your local library for details on the application process. Not every library has a VolunTeen program.
You will need to fill out an application form and attend a mandatory orientation meeting to become a VolunTeen.
