Hispanic Heritage Month: Familia Fiesta & More

Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, and Henrico County Public Library is excited to invite you to programs that celebrate cultures and traditions from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Mark your calendars to visit Familia Fiesta at Tuckahoe Area Library on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities are free and registration is not required. This three-hour event features live music, performances, crafts, and games, and has been designed for all ages. Read on for more details.

TEENS

Teen Art Studio: Celebrating Latine Artists
Tuesday, Sept. 24; 6-8 p.m. at Varina Library
Explore popular Latin visual artists, discuss different styles of art from Latin cultures, and do a variety of art projects. All artistic skill levels are welcome! 

Winged Messengers: Sewing Fabric Butterflies
Wednesday, Sept. 25; 6-8 p.m. at Fairfield Library
Learn about monarch butterflies' Mexican cultural significance. Then, sew an origami fabric butterfly and leave with a pack of milkweed seeds to increase conservation efforts. Plus, don't forget to check out a book to find your next sewing project.

Oooh Capybara
Thursday, Oct. 10; 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Twin Hickory Library
Learn about the largest rodent from South America, the Capybara, which has their own viral song. Learn, craft, and create in honor of this chill animal. 

TEENS & ADULTS

Dia de Muertos: Make a Decorative Skull
Saturday, Oct. 5; 2-3:30 p.m. at Tuckahoe Library
Paint and decorate a sugar skull take home; learn about the Mexican holiday Dia de Muertos.
