One question library staff frequently encounter is, "Can you recommend a book for me?" And the answer is, of course! Recommending titles is something we love to do! Read on to learn more about library resources that can help you find new titles and authors to explore.
Library staff love to recommend books. You can ask us in person at the information desk, give us a call, or use our My Next Read service. Fill out the My Next Reads form on our website with a few of your recent favorites and we will email you a customized list of books based on your preferences. We have experts in many genres and subject areas, so feel free to get specific!
If you would like to do your own research, Novelist Plus and Novelist K-8 are great resources. Both databases contain a large number of books and recommended reading lists that you can browse. We particularly love their “For Fans of...” lists, which feature books based on popular TV, movies, and books. In addition to Novelist, the Books and Authors and Booklist Online databases are fun to explore.
Sign up for one (or many!) of our LibraryAware Newsletters to get monthly or bi-monthly booklists delivered to your inbox. These lists feature new and exciting titles in each genre. You can also get the New York Times Bestsellers emailed to you each week.
And for more librarian-curated lists, check out our blog! Some recent posts include Celebrate Pride Month, Healthy Cooking, Black Authors Showcase, and Read with Your Eyes Closed (all about audiobooks). Keep an eye on our website for future posts with recommendations.
PS – We love recommendations too! What would you suggest we read? 😊
