The Friends of Henrico County Public Library support library programs and services, and are the primary sponsors of All Henrico Reads, our annual author event (coming up April 2 with author Robin Sloan!). The Friends support Summer Reading, host author visits and book signings, purchase book sets for book discussion groups, assist the library with grant-funded programs, provide toys for young people to learn through play at the library, and raise funds to support these and other activities. Friends make the library a better place. If you love the library, consider joining the Friends!
If you are interested in joining the Friends of the Library, you can visit henricolibrary.org/friends to send an application and the $10 joining fee. This small contribution qualifies you for entry to the Virginia Credit Union and gets you access to the Friends Annual Meeting before All Henrico Reads, where you can enjoy a light meal and have a meet-and-greet with the featured author.
If you want to get more involved with helping the Friends support the Library, you can join your local Friends group as an officer. The commitment is minimal, but you will make a large impact. Local Friends groups meet, at minimum, once annually, and just require two officers – one to sign for checks and track expenses, and one to take a leadership role and guide other members in decision-making. These groups raise funds through member contributions, ongoing book sales stationed in each library location, and some groups even organize larger book sales. They sponsor events and services in response to community needs, and are supported through the work of library staff and the countywide Friends Coordinating Board.
Libraries in need of new Friends officers include the Sandston Library, where the Friends group carries on a longstanding tradition of supporting community literacy and learning through sponsoring a variety of programs. If you are interested in becoming an officer of the Sandston Friends of the Library, please call 804-501-1990.
There is always need for Friends of the Library at library locations across the county. We hope you will consider joining the Friends of the Library, and perhaps even signing on as an officer with your local Friends group!
