The sun is setting earlier, the air is getting cooler: time to go on a camping adventure. Camping is a great way to reconnect with nature, and there are several resources available at the library to help you plan your next camping endeavor. Read on to learn more about our exploration kits, upcoming programs, books, and more.
There are many ways to enjoy camping. From using a tent, to sleeping under the stars in a sleeping bag, to glamping in a yurt (yes, it still counts!), no matter how you prefer to camp, there is more than likely an opportunity for you. Be prepared and research your park or campsite before heading out. Many parks have noise ordinances and safety guidelines to ensure a fun and safe time for all. Practice Leave No Trace to ensure that we all do our part to respect the Earth.
As you prepare to hit the trails, we recommend checking out a Nature Backpack from the library. Search ‘Nature Backpack’ in our catalog to locate an available backpack. When you check out the backpack at the circulation desk, you will receive a free parking pass to use at any Virginia State Park. The backpack also includes guides and tools for you to discover and identify wildlife. In addition to Nature Backpacks, we also carry a backpack that focuses on birding. Search the catalog for ‘Birding Backpack,’ and use the included binoculars and bird guides to get to know our flying friends.
