- Beyond the Book: Creative Extension Activities for Picture Books
- Tuesday, September 9, 6:30 – 8PM at Libbie Mill
- Picture books are a powerful tool for young learners. In this hands-on workshop, early childhood educators will explore creative ways to extend the magic of picture books through crafts, movement activities, games, and interactive storytelling. Participants will leave with practical ideas and ready-to-use activities that will inspire young readers and bring books to life in new and exciting ways!
- Nutrition in Early Childhood
- Thursday, October 16, 6:30 – 8PM at Gayton
- Join Kim Edmonds from Virginia Tech Cooperative Extension as she provides an overview of nutrition for young children including the topics of snacks and portion size.
- Speech and Language Development in Children
- Wednesday, November 12, 6:30 – 8PM at Glen Allen
- Every child develops at their own pace and while some speak early and often, others may take longer to develop their speech and language skills. Being aware of common speech and language milestones can help caregivers advocate for a child if they need some extra support. Come learn about language development milestones with Dr. Susan Combee from Scottish Rite Child Language Center.
- Social Emotional Learning: Fundamentals and Practical Applications in Youth Programming
- Tuesday, December 9, 6:30 – 8PM at Tuckahoe
- This staff-led workshop will inform caregivers on the fundamentals of social-emotional learning and its role in childhood development. Caregivers will also hear practical applications of these principles in the form of books, extension activities, storytime props and manipulatives.
