Fourth Annual LibraryCon

20190600-librarycon-blog

Kick off Summer Reading with us at our 4th Annual LibraryCon! This year it will be at Tuckahoe Library on Saturday, June 29 at 1:00 pm. The afternoon will be filled with workshops, cosplay, gaming, and prizes for the whole family. Pick up something good to read and enjoy nerding out with us!

LibraryCon is the perfect reason to dress up as one of your favorite characters! It doesn’t matter what fandoms you love, we want to see your costume making skills. Our Cosplay and Costume contest will run from 1:00-3:30 and winners will be announced at 4:00. We had so much fun with the green screen last year that we will have it set up again. Costumed or not, stop by to take a photo. You can also take your photo with The Garrison Tyranus of the 501st Legion or even a Dalek!

For teens, there will be escape rooms and gaming all afternoon, and for kids, there will be crafts, Jedi Training at 2:00 and a costume parade at 3:00. We are excited to have cosplay expert Brandon James and artist and illustrator Phil Hilliker to lead amazing workshops. Brandon will be showing off his stellar costumes at 1:15 for those interested in learning more about the art of mask making and cosplay. At 2:30, Phil will show us how to make Art for Role Playing Games in his interactive workshop. All ages are welcome to attend these workshops, though they will be more enjoyable for teens and adults.

While you are there, pick up a few comic books or movies, or ask library staff about accessing our digital comic collection using Hoopla. Remember to snag a sticker for your Summer Reading log for coming to a library event, and log your attendance online at henricolibrary.org/summerreading. You need five badges to be eligible for the grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. Find out more here.

Hope to see you there!
