Sourdough by Robin Sloan inspires many questions about food, what makes a life fulfilling, and the role of technology in our lives. Explore these topics at one of our upcoming programs based on the novel, and be sure to join us on April 2 at 7:00 pm at Glen Allen High School for an evening with the author.

Presenters the VCU Biology Department and HCPL will share about the scientific, commercial, and culinary uses of yeast. We will learn what makes sourdough sour, how to keep yeast alive, how yeast is used in brewing of beer, and the ways yeasts are used as test subjects for medical research. This event will be immediately followed by Libbie Mill Evening Book Discussion Group discussion of Sourdough by Robin Sloan.

Immigrants, Food Businesses, and Henrico
Twin Hickory Library
Saturday, April 18, 2:00 pm
This afternoon of stories and food features Henrico residents with roots abroad who have developed food businesses in the county, just like the brothers Beoreg and Chaiman in Sourdough. This program is a chance to connect with neighbors over food, as well as stories of migration and entrepreneurship. Bring an appetite and a healthy curiosity!

We are also discussing Sourdough at each library this spring. Visit our Book Discussion page to find a discussion group that works for you.

At our All Henrico Reads event, Robin Sloan will discuss his book and writing career, followed by a Q&A session and book signing. This event is free and open to the public, and no tickets or admission fee are required. Doors open at 6:15 pm. Books will be available to purchase from bbgb books at the event.
