Community Authors Showcase

Read, discuss, and connect with other writers and readers in our community. Local authors are invited to sign up and share their books.

This self-serve program allows local authors to book a 90-minute, evening time slot on at one of five Area libraries to read, discuss your writing process, sell, sign, and promote your book.

Information for Authors

If you have a Henrico County library card and have written a book that is bound and published or self-published, you can participate. Check our Events Calendar to find an available Showcase date and register to speak.

Promotion for your event.

Publicity will be the primary responsibility of the author with our self-serve program. You can include the library's address, but not our phone number on your publicity. Invite your family, friends, and other writers and readers. Use your Facebook and Twitter and other social media. Ongoing advertising about the Henrico Community Author's showcase will be provided by the library via our web site, social media, and Program Guide publication, but generally it will not include specifics about programs or authors.

Adding a copy of your book to the library's collection.

If you'd like, you can donate one free copy of your book to the Area Library where you have your program. Please allow around one month for processing, after which your book will be searchable systemwide in our library catalog and can be checked-out and reserved as a hold by library customers. Your book will go on our Henrico Community Author's display and will be kept for a year and maybe longer, if it continues to check out. All donated books will have a sticker on the front cover indicating they are part of the program. To search for books in this special collection in our catalog, browse the If You Like....section called Community Authors or use the Advanced Search for "Community Authors" under Location.

Selling copies of your book at your event.

The Friends of the Henrico Public Library sponsor an option for authors to sell their books by making a $20 donation to the Friends for each event. For this option, you will need to pay in advance of your program by check (made payable to Friends of the Henrico County Public Library) or cash at the checkout desk. This donation is tax-deductible. Authors are encouraged to join the Friends and get involved with supporting the Henrico Library and programs such as this one! At the end of your program, you will need to return a brief form to the information desk. Authors can book in advance and up to 5 times a year at any location.
